About
Core Values
Innovative and high-impact teaching, research, outreach AND safety are NOT mutually exclusive goals. Safe science and engineering is good science and engineering.
As engineers are to hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public, it is the ethical duty of engineers to develop skills, knowledge, compassion and aptitude in identifying hazards, evaluating risk and mitigating risk while delivering solutions to address humanity’s greatest needs.
Who we are
The Office of Safety are embedded safety professionals operating within the Grainger College of Engineering. Our task is to support Grainger Engineering students, faculty and staff with the implementation of campus environmental health and safety commitments and responsibilities as outlined in the Campus Administrative Manual.
Our goal
“In every operation throughout the organization, to make safety part of the conversation.”
To that end, we offer resources and services for improving safety awareness, emergency preparedness and environmental stewardship that serve the research, teaching and outreach missions of the Grainger College of Engineering.
The Office of Safety works in close coordination with the Grainger Engineering Office of Facilities and unit facility managers to ensure spaces are fit for their intended purpose and comply with safety and health standards and best practices. To that end, we serve as consultants in the planning of new and renovated space, and also the planning for decommissioning of spaces in areas of safety, emergency planning and environmental health.
