DIVISION OF RESEARCH SAFETY

The Division of Research Safety (DRS) provides service and programs to assist the campus community in maintaining a safe work environment.

SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE

The mission of Safety and Compliance is to promote safe and environmentally sound work practices that advance the University’s mission and interests by advising and consulting with faculty, staff, and students.

CAMPUS CODE COMPLIANCE AND FIRE SAFETY

Campus Code Compliance & Fire Safety manages the University’s fire and life safety programs. They provide plan review services for campus construction projects to ensure accessibility compliance and safety guidelines are met.

Units should promptly report fire-related incidents occurring in their areas of responsibility to Campus Code Compliance & Fire Safety.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

The IACUC provides oversight and helps ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and policies governing the care and use of research and teaching animals.

They review and assess proposed activities or changes related to the care and use of animals and inspect all of the research facility's animal facilities, including animal study areas, at least once every six months.

ANIMAL CARE AND USE OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAMS (OHS)

The goal of the Animal Care and Use Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) program is to identify risks, implement safety controls, and provide training to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for personnel having direct or indirect contact with research and teaching animals.

All people with direct or indirect exposure to research and teaching animals must be enrolled in the OHS Program.

DIVISION OF ANIMAL RESOURCES (DAR)

The Division of Animal Resources (DAR), in partnership with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, researchers, students, and regulatory agencies, is responsible for ensuring high quality animal care and for providing training in and consultation on the safe, humane use of laboratory animals in research and education in compliance with federal regulations and campus policies.
